Apple cider vinegar was mom’s solution for everything, but especially for cleaning toilets. Our old toilet bowl had a ring around the inside that just wouldn’t come out, even with hard scrubbing. The lime in our house’s hard water had etched that ring in, and even our trusty abrasive toilet cleaner couldn’t get it out.

One day, Mom poured apple cider vinegar in the toilet and let it sit overnight. (Of course, when I looked in the toilet bowl and saw this amber liquid, I thought maybe someone had forgotten to flush. Luckily, Mom informed me otherwise!) In the morning, she took one quick swipe with the toilet bowl brush and the line was miraculously gone. Plus, the bathroom smelled like apples!

After that discovery, Mom added apple cider vinegar to the dishwasher detergent to make the glasses sparkle. She poured it on her hands to take away onion chopping smells, and added it to baking soda to create a mixture that got helped her get rid of carpet stains.

From that point on, there was always a big old jug of apple cider vinegar in the pantry. I use it in my own house now as my all-natural, go-to cleaning product.
