Winter Gardening – Measures to Take Ahead of Time

However, due to the lack of proper care and management, it has been really disappointing for many gardeners to see their plants being dying out in winters. So in order to safeguard your garden from winter frost there are certain measures which you need to take ahead of time.

Provide greenhouse to your garden in the winter season. Providing the greenhouse to the plants can be really useful as adequate amount of heat and light can be provided to them and also at the same time they would be safeguarded from the cold winds that can damage them severely. Providing right amount of heat is really essential as it will make plants to survive and also allow them to perform natural processes on consistent basis to keep them healthy for a longer period of time. In the same way, cold frames can also be used for the purpose of providing shelter to your garden plants similar to greenhouses. They are also useful to control the environmental conditions but however are not effective as the green houses. Even many gardeners also take the help of cloches as they are more portable version of a poly tunnel and can be very useful to safeguard the plants from the winter frost as well.
Even the process of mulching can be used to safeguard the plants and the shrubs from the winter frost as well. By applying a thick layer of mulch, the roots can be protected and the drainage system can also get improved at the same time as well. However the gardener must make sure that mulch should not be applied directly onto the base because this would make the plants rot out within a short period of time. For the process of mulching using up of saw dust, shredded paper and wood chips is highly recommended. Similarly, the plants can even be wrapped using sheets or burlap so that they can be safeguarded from the cold and freezing winds.
