The Colorado Gold rush of 1859 saw many gold hunters, merchants and farmers settling down in Colorado territory and also the town of Littleton. The resident of the neighborhood at that time hired an engineer form New Hampshire, Richard Little to help with irrigation of the land. Many businesses were also started during this period. Little became attached to this lovely town and also named it after him, Littleton. Richard also brought his whole family down to Littleton in 1862. He was also instrumental in building a flour mill with other residents in the year of 1867 which was the economic base of the community for several years afterwards.

The rapid growth of Littleton took place in 1871 when the Denver railroad reached the area. In 1872, the Little family subdivided their land. Littleton had grown a lot and boated of schools, hotels, churches and stores by the time Colorado was officially made a State in 1876. Read more…

DCS 36 gas cooktop

Posted by: Melissa Panos in Home Improvement News No Comments »

DCS Appliances is trying hard to be the go-to brand for people who cook. (You might have seen them in action on Americas Test Kitchen.)

DCS was purchased by the (probably better-known) New Zealand brand, Fisher & Paykel but inherited its focus on performance from the commercial DCS products, so home chefs are likely to be pleased.

Especially with the DCS gas cooktops.

Of course faster boil times are great, but you dont want to screw up delicate sauces when youre trying to simmer. Sealed Dual Flow Burners, unique to DCS appliances, provide the control you need.

On the 36 inch gas cooktop (CDU-365), the powerful center burner can roar at 17,500 BTUs on the 36 inch gas cooktop.

This 5 burner gas cooktop can hover at a gentle 140 degree simmer on ANY burner so you wont scorch your five pots of chocolate.

Colder months typically bring increased concerns about energy costs, which can vary widely depending on your heating source. The good news? There are two small things you can do to help prevent energy leaks, meaning you’ll rack up noticeable savings on your energy bills.

The first? Install thermal shades. These are a great tool, especially if you can’t afford to replace your home’s existing insulation. Plus, thermal shades are helpful year-round. They block the sun in the summer, keeping your home cool, while also retaining heat in the winter so that you can keep your home comfy and cozy without spending a ton of money.

Thermal shades vary in price and can be found at many sources, including JC Penney. You’ll be able to find thermal shades that suit your window type and home decor.

These chevron drawer liners from Hammocks & High Tea are solid gold!

I recently rescued an antique chest of drawers from a relative’s house that unfortunately has a rather “antique” smell to it, so the fact that the drawer liners are lightly scented with organic jasmine and bitter orange essential oils means they’re perfect for chasing the mustiness away. Pretty, perfumed, and totally on-trend? See ya, drawer sachets! There’s a new sheriff in town.

If youre not much of a cook, you should probably just stop reading now. Capital range got an earful about how crappy the burners are on a standard range. In response, the appliance-maker built the Capital Culinarian.

Some cooks just want a commercial-looking range but need the safety of a sealed-burner system (several flames rising around a burner cap). The Culinarian sharply departs into both a commercial fit and finish AND the power and performance as an open burner range thats closer to that of a restaurant kitchen.

The flame rises from each part of the burner ports to provide the most even heat distribution and best cooking results.
