Robert Majkut has completed the interior design for PKO Bank Polski Private Banking in Poland. The starting point for this project was Bank’s corporate identity developed by White Cat Studio, above all the modernized logo of PKO Bank Polski in its elegant color version for Private Banking sector – black, white and gold, which created a set of basic colors for the interior. Other graphical elements were also inspiring – in particular one decorative motif consisting of a grid of elegant, sinusoidal lines, consistently applied in the graphic design for the PKO Bank Polski Private Banking.

The theme of delicate grid was treated in a very innovative way – a bi-dimensional pattern was completely transformed by introducing an additional dimension: it was made spatial by being projected on the tri-dimensional model of the interior.

Today’s photos are from Terie Rawn in Newfield, New York. Terie says, “In ’89 we moved back to my hometown so our family could be raised in a smaller community. After clearing a small section of trees we nestled a newly built home just inside woods edge to face farmland hills and a distant view of Ithaca, New York. Every year since my husband and I have expanded the landscape to include many gardens, various paths, and a woods pond. For our 30th wedding anniversary Ray built a ‘Stepback Garden Cottage’ for me to play in. Much to my delight, it has served to host tea parties, garden guests, and grand daughters’ play time. I am so grateful to be a temporary part of this little heaven on earth!

Yes, you read that title correctly. FERRIS. WHEEL. CUPCAKE. HOLDER. And yes, this product is frivolous, but I would argue that is what makes it awesome.

There was nothing technically wrong with how we as a people were serving cupcakes before this invention. Putting cupcakes on a tray or on a cake stand was, and is, fine. All the same, I’m glad someone at Horchow thought, Ferris wheel seats kinda look like cupcake tins, HEEEEEYYYY, and created it. And I’m sure everyone marveling at this whimsical wonder at themed birthday parties, baby showers and weddings would agree with me.

Botanists have discovered that the origin of Tahitian vanilla (Vanilla tahitensis), an orchid that when pollinated yields the most delectable vanilla bean on the planet, actually had its origins in the Mayan forests of Mexico and Guatemala. Whats interesting about this finding is that the Tahitian vanilla orchid is found only in cultivation and not in the wild.

Using DNA and ethno-historic analysis, Pesach Lubinsky, a postdoctoral researcher and Norman Ellstrand, a professor of genetics in UC Riverside’s Department of Botany and Plant Sciences, appear to have traced Tahitian vanilla back to its evolutionary beginning as a pre-Columbian Maya cultivar. Modern day Tahitian vanilla appears to be a hybrid between V. planifolia, a species cultivated for commercial vanilla that is primarily grown in Madagascar and Indonesia, and the never cultivated V. All this week, my sister and appliance specialist Angela Warner has been judging the Twin Cities Live Microwave Cooking Challenge, which challenges contestants to create delicious and fun meals cooked only in the microwave.

Contestants like Next Food Network Star contestant Justin Davis and Cities 97s BT came up with really creative microwave recipes even microwave cake recipes!
